Since March of 2008, the Buffalo Trace Mounted Patrol has been providing community safety patrols at area events from Lexington to Louisville, Kentucky. This is in addition to their Mounted Search and Rescue training held at various locations in the State of Kentucky.
In 2011 the Mounted Patrol and leading area stables will host monthly civilian sensitivity/obstacle “Bombproofing” clinics in addition to FREE member training.
These safety and skill based clinics are partnered with Emergency Management, First Responders, UK Health Saddle Up Safely program and otherCommunity Partners. Also, the patrol will attend numerous educational and community events, festivals and parades by invitation during 2011. The Mounted Patrol does not self deploy.
The Buffalo Trace Mounted Patrol is Kentucky’s largest volunteer mounted patrol and provides critical services in communities where budget cutbacks have affected local government involvement community events.
Volunteers receive training from organizations like the Red Cross, County SAR units and Citizens Emergency Response Teams. The Mounted Patrol coordinates CPR, 1st Aid and other rider skills prior to deployment. Monthly equine training is required for members.
